Cannot connect win10 tried everything I have read

Hello all,

I purchased a FT85BD 75V100Ax2 from amazon and have spent around 6 hours now trying to get it to connect. I am using the cable provided and have tried multiple known working data cables. I have downloaded the virtual driver from ST link and the software recognizes the device and gives me the option to connect to it. When I try to connect, its says its connected for a few seconds then gives me the error it cannot read the firmware file and asks if I am on the correct com port (I am). I have also checked baud settings for the port. and they match. I thought maybe a firmware issue, so I have tried every version of  the VESC tool with the same results.Pretty bumbed right now as I do not want to return this as I need it, like now. I've read things about certain versions being shipped with no firmware or bootloader, maybe Im one of the lucky winners? If so, what then? I have an ST-Link and have done little things like flash hoverboard controllers, but man.. I'd sure like to avoid soldering on my new 150 dollar esc. I bought this part to avoid most of this. I feel like I'm just missing an important step as the tool sees the device on the port but wont connect. Shot in the dark... any help before I return this? (just an edit to add: I'm powering it with a 10S lipo at around 36 volts.)

FT models from Flipsky are "NON-VESC".

Yeah, I learned that the hard way. I wish the link for software was to the correct application in the instruction sheet provided.

I've connected and started tuning using the ESC tool. Now if anyone knows how to tune a 15 pole 36v 10A hub motor, please help me out. Larger diameter slower motors so the defaults do not work. The canbus test runs it perfect towards the end of the test, but then the application crashed and I lose that setting. (See what it can do....denied!!..heh).
