VESC 5.3 HW6 MK5 controller small sensorless motor

I have a VESC 5.3 HW6 MK5 controller and I'm trying to control a relatively small motor. The FOC motor parameter identification used to work but now it fails. It also detects a difference in Lq and Ld but its just a simple BLDC motor and there should be no difference. When the identification was working a lamda of 0.7mWb was detected.

- Could it be that the VESC has been damaged?

I supply the VESC with 12.7[V] so the current stays below 3[A]?

- Can such a small motor be controlled by FOC?

Thanks

Your values don't look good. What changed in the meantime when it was working fine? Sure the motor and connections are fine? What motor is it exactly? You can try flashing firmware and bootloader again. Try using a battery, maybe even with higher voltage.

Thank you for the suggestion. Have have bought 6 more VESCs in the mean time. I have run the parameter identification with all of them but the come with relatively comparable values:

None of the parameters or controllers get the FOC to work on the motor though. Increasing the voltage from 12-13[V] to 57[V] does improves the FOC  at no load a lot though. How could that improve it?

Unfortunately the motor needs to start with a relatively high load and this still doesn't work. One work around could be to increase the openloop ERPM to a higher value. Would that help?

If you select "FOC" as Motor type you get a lot of open loop parameters like; -ERPM, -ERPM at Min current, -Hysteresis, -Lock Time, -Ramp Time, -Time. If you select BLDC as motor type those parameters disappear. Are those parameters not active anymore? If so, why are those parameters not nessasery in case of BLDC commutation?

It looks like there is something wrong with your motor. Are you using a battery? If not, what kind of power supply? Please don´t go over 50,4V (12S battery) for max voltage. More than that is not recommended and can destroy your Vesc´s.

As long as your setup seams wrong, you don´t need to change any other settings. FOC and BLDC Modes just have different parameters to set up.
