VESC for third party Sailboat Motor

Hi All,

I recently came across a very expensive senseless 10 kW electric boat motor from someone that I know with a defective esc. A replacement is not sold by the company, and I'd prefer the vesc. Thinking about using the vesc 6 mkiii.  I plan to use it at around the 5 kw range.

Is it as simple as buying a vesc, changing it to FOC (sensorless) and following the tutorials? I am not sure if the motor has a certain inductance, resistance, or anything else that would make it not a good fit for the vesc. I couldn't help to notice not a lot of large volume motor examples on the forums and youtube videos. thanks

Voltage: 48V

Power: 5,000 Watts

Boat weight: 1.3 ton

heh, they won't let me visit the site because I'm in Europe. They'd rather spam me than try to sell to me.

I think on paper the VESC 6 mkiv is sufficient but you'd be right at the top end of it's capability. Might be better to just get the 75/300 and enjoy the extra headroom that brings.

I can't comment on your motor suitablity for VESCs though.
