Firmware update VERY slow and doesn't update

I have two VESC 6's on my Trampa

I just downloaded the newest VESC_Tool v1.25

When connecting it tells me I have an old version of firmware so I go to update

It takes forever, literally a few minutes, and after VESC reboots the version update doesn't actually work

Then I tried an older version 0.92 and uploaded firmware 3.38 which took less then a minute and the VESC took the update

Now it won't take any update

Why is the 1.25 upload taking so long and failing to update to the latest firmware?

I will see if I can replicate the issue. There have been many updates on how firmware updates are handled since v0.95. Can you give some details about your setup? E.g.

  • Are you using the update all function over CAN?
  • How many VESCs do you have connected?
  • Are you using any module connected over UART?
  • Is any RT data function activated?

    - no
  • How many VESCs do you have connected?

    - I disconnected the CAN to isolate this VESC
  • Are you using any module connected over UART?

    - nrf module
  • Is any RT data function activated?

    - no

I tried version 1.13 and the upload took considerably less time but at the end it disconnects but it doesn't reboot

After I cycle power it comes back as old version 3.38 again

PS. The other VESC successfully updated with version 1.13 firmware 3.57? I believe, after the upload the VESC rebooted and I was able to reconnect to that one

I've also noticed that firmware updates over bluetooth take far longer on more recent firmware. Upgrading from 3.38 to 3.53 takes 3 minutes. Then going from 3.53 to 3.62 has taken a whopping 20 minutes. I've replicated this on a couple of different vesc boards and nrf modules.

I'm on Ubuntu 19.04 and the nrf modules have latest firmware too.
